Studio MBM is a multidisciplinary design practice based in New York, founded and led by the Maurizio Bianchi Mattioli. With a diverse and international portfolio, Studio MBM spans a broad range of design scales, from meticulously crafted objects and furniture to transformative interior renovations and visionary ground-up architecture.


The studio's approach is deeply rooted in a rigorous conceptual framework that draws from design theory, geometry, and architectural history. Known for its bold experimentation with materials and textures, Studio MBM integrates innovative applications into every project, regardless of size.

At the heart of Studio MBM is a profound respect for culture. The practice consistently engages with the realms of art, fashion, and the local context, infusing each project with a sensitivity to its unique environment and narrative.


Maurizio Bianchi Mattioli

Maurizio Bianchi Mattioli is the founding principal of Studio MBM, with over 18 years of professional experience. His diverse portfolio spans the globe, and many of his projects have earned international acclaim. Maurizio is deeply committed to architectural education, serving as an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the Columbia University Graduate School of Architecture, Planning, and Preservation. He has also taught at the University of Pennsylvania, Pratt Institute, and has been a guest critic at Cornell University, NYIT, Cooper Union, Pratt, and Yale University.


Previously, Maurizio was an Associate Principal at WORKac, where the firm was named the #1 design firm in the United States by Architect magazine during his tenure. His design expertise has led to numerous competition wins, including his leadership role in the design of the BeMA Beirut Museum of Art. Other notable projects include a 60-villa beachside development on the Lebanese coast, the master plan for the Beijing Horticultural Expo, a 600-seat performance space aboard a Virgin Voyages cruise ship, and a private residence for a renowned art collector.


Maurizio holds a Master of Advanced Architectural Design from Columbia University and a Master of Architecture from the University of South Florida. He is also LEED Accredited.
